A Guide To Your Riga Hen Weekend

Where to Drink in Riga

Sticking to Old Town is always a good idea when it comes to partying in Riga. The streets around the Rigas Sv. Petera Baznica are brimming with cool bars and quirky pubs to post up in all night. You can easily dip from bar to bar, though, as in this district everything is close-by.

At night the city changes atmosphere completely and the vibe is casual until you realise that all the energy is bubbling underground. You can find cosy wine venues and cocktail bars in underground, sneaky hiding spots which are really fun to explore.

The area around Vermanes Park is not only beautiful but has a wealth of watering holes when the hens get thirsty. It's right near the shops, too, if you need a little break from the retail life!

Sights & Sounds

Sights - Riga's mythos is as enchanting as its architecture; the statue of The Great Kristaps is a bit of a walk from the city centre, but the waterside views are truly stunning, and the monument itself is fascinating. Telling the story of Great Christopher, the statue reveals how the man himself helped a child-saint across the raging waters of the river before turning into a chest of gold, allowing Christopher to buy land and build Riga. While we don't think he can transform any of the girls into gold, he does make for a pretty good selfie!

Sounds - Riga's hip, young things can all be found in OneOne on a weekend and it's not difficult to understand why. This alternative nightclub is incredibly lively and it's widely considered the trendiest venue in town. There's a chilled-out party atmosphere here that the girls are sure to love.

Shopping in Riga

Riga is all about fashion; the streets are awash with youthful exuberance and a hip style that looks expensive to say the least. What the Latvian fashionistas don't want you to know is that they didn't break the bank for their visually arresting wardrobe, and you don't have to either with the wide variety of vintage stores in this spectacular town.

HUMANA Vintage - Ever dug through your gran's wardrobe and thought 'I'd look good in this?' This charming shop will give you the chance to find out with its selection of retro-chic threads from the past 50 years.
Where? Gertrudes iela 16, Riga

Getting Around Riga

Riga isn't a particularly small city, so you'd be forgiven for seeking some kind of public transport whether you're laden with shopping bags or otherwise. Handily, Riga has a fabulous transport network providing Trams, Trolleys and Buses for you to make the most of during your stay.
Fancy finding your own way around? Hop on a public SixtBicycle!

Hen Days

This is a truly wonderful destination, but you aren't just tourists. No, you're hens, and you deserve the kind of fun activities that are worthy of your special weekend. Does the bride-to-be purport to be a bit of a Lara Croft? She's sure to love Paintballing, Go Karting and Clay Shooting. Although Husky Dog Sledding and our Bobsleigh ride can also provide lots of high octane thrills! See more hen activities in Riga.

Hen Nights

Sexy, stylish and atmospheric; Riga is a spectacular party destination. Somehow, this city's gorgeous architecture looks even better at night, and the locals certainly know it, packing out the bars and clubs most evenings. Begin proceedings in a luxury manner with a Limousine ride before discovering the cities best Bars & Pubs. There's always time for a sexy Male Stripper and the bride-to-be shouldn't have to queue on her big weekend, so we can arrange Guestlist Nightclubbing to see you into the most exclusive venues. It's time for a hen party in Riga!

Riga has more activities than you could possibly fit into one hen weekend. The beautiful Latvian capital is a relatively new destination that will give you a lot more than you could ever possibly imagine!

Why: Reasons to celebrate a Riga hen party

A Riga hen do is a special experience. Not only is the city the capital of Latvia but also the largest city in the Baltic States. With beautiful cobbled streets and a stunning skyline of castle turrets and church steeples it's hard not to fall in love with Riga.

To take the stress out of your weekend we've put together a fantastic package that includes all the Riga essentials for your hen weekend but if you fancy something different then drop us a line and we'll get to work on your perfect weekend. A hen weekend is the perfect opportunity to experience the city. We've got a number of great activities that are certain to be enjoyed by all the girls. Our favourites include go karting, quad biking, shooting and winter sports. The evenings are just as fun, with 100s of traditional pubs and bars, great restaurants and terrific nightclubs.

Shop: Riga shopping areas & recommendations

There's a good range of shops scattered around the whole of Riga, with the highest number found around the Old Town and near the city centre. Local crafts, food and alcohol can all be found pretty cheaply, but bear in mind that the price of designer goods will be around the same price you'd pay in any other European city. Around the Old Town you'll find independent boutiques and family-run stores, or for a bigger selection of shops head to Riga's swankiest shopping courtyard, Berga Bazars, which has high-end shops, cafes, fitness clubs and a food and antiques bazaar every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Alternatively for more traditionally Latvian shops head to the Barona Centrs, another mall with around 40 shops and a small supermarket.

Stay: Choosing your Riga hen weekend accommodation

Riga has a number of great hotels, all complete with comfortable beds and excellent Latvian hospitality. Location is one of the most important factors, as well as any specific requirements you might have such as parking spaces or proximity to a train station and airport. It's important that you and the girls are in a favourable neighbourhood, and you've got to consider transport links (e.g. are you arriving into the city by train and if so you may want to be close to the main station). We've got some great options - have a look at our Riga accommodation page where you can find out more about our comfortable 3 star hotels, spacious 4 stars and luxurious 5 stars. Having helped thousands of hens organise their perfect accommodation, we're clued up on where to stay in Riga.

Party: Where Riga hen parties head after dark

Riga is a city that never sleeps, a mantra that's especially true over the summer months when the lively nightlife continues into the early hours. The bars start to get busy around 8-9pm and in general the nightclubs open around 10-11pm, getting busy around midnight. If you're looking for something a bit different then why not have a few drinks in one of the outside cafes around Dome Square in Old Riga. On warm nights the atmosphere's wonderful and the square gets packed out. Make sure to also add some fantastic pre-planned group entertainment into the mix so that you're guaranteed a great time, how about taking the group for a casino experience or a guided bar crawl given by an English-speaking local? Top it off with Guestlist Nightclubbing at a top Latvian nightclub and you're in for a treat. See our Riga hen night page here.

When: The best times to visit for a hen party in Riga

Riga is a city with a lot going on, with a huge variety of exciting festivals and concerts filling Riga's most popular venues throughout the year. The most popular event in January is the Riga Music Festival, celebrating both Latvian and foreign traditional music, and then in February you can pay a visit to the Bach Music Festival. In March there's the Latvian Contemporary Drama Festival "Insight" and then in June there's the Riga Opera Festival. Occasional summers see Riga play host to the Latvian Song and Dance Festival and every August Latvian's celebrate the Riga Salsa Festival. Over September there's a month of chamber music performances for the Autumn Chamber Music Days and then in November Riga's home to the Porta World Music Festival. Finally celebrate through the cold winter months with some of the world's most renowned composers and performers at Winterfest. No matter what time of year you visit the Latvian city you can be sure the girls wont soon forget it.
